Francis Ford Coppola has cited Michelangelo Antonioni's "Blowup" (1966) as a key influence on his conceptualization of the themes of his film "The Conversation" (released on this date in 1974), such as surveillance versus participation, and perception versus reality. Gene Hackman's character of Harry Caul was inspired by surveillance technology expert Martin Kaiser, who also served as a technical consultant on the film.
